On
Dec 22,1906
six miners lost their lives to equipment failure. Of the
six, five were buried at St. Dominic’s Cemetery.
This is the marker that was
erected to remind us of the mine disaster.
The names clearly displayed here
are Herman Holtmann, Hermann Schleper, August Foppe, Franz
Zehrer and Heinrich Middeke. Their funeral was at nine in
the morning.
At St John’s Cemetery the sixth
miner was laid to rest. He was Walter Schaffner. His funeral
started at one in the afternoon the same day as the miners

Rest in Peace.
